RIDICULOUSLY PLEASED with myself tonight. Just five years after very temporarily housing 5 boxes of junk in our new cloakroom I suddenly took it into my head to establish the whereabouts of our local recycling centre – definitely one of modern life’s better inventions. The look of satisfaction on the faces of all who emptied their full-to-the-roof cars into the neat circle of recycling skips was a communally shared pleasure. And come the autumn this year I can now envisage several more happy clearances. The cloakroom looks great tonight. Seriously: there’s room for cloaks!
